E-Saadhya & SWAR


1. e-Saadhya

(a.) e-Saadhya is an education framework for children with autism and mild mental retardation. As part of e-Learning initiatives for the persons with disabilities, C-DAC, Bangalore has developed this “Adaptable and Accessible e-Learning” Framework for the children with cognitive Disabilities. More particularly, the framework supports creation of education plans for individuals based on profile information of individuals and monitoring status of the individuals towards the education plans. The solution framework supports both teaching and learning for individual and associated stakeholder including educators, parents and therapists.

(b.) e-Saadhya is a desktop or laptop-based application. By seeing the present state of Asha School children, it is challenging for them to learn to operate the computer and laptops. Special educators/teachers, therapists, and parents have noticed that children enjoy learning through Smart Interactive Board, mobiles and tablets which has enhanced creativity & learning ability. Currently, children are using Smart Interactive Boards in which children show more interest in writing alphabets, numbers, make drawing/coloring and designs which enhanced the creativity & learning ability. By considering the above, e-Saadhya with tablet compatibility will be required for Asha School.

  4. Standard Assessment /Evaluation
  5. Personalized exercise & activities for children.
  6. Parents window for feedback & info on activities/exercise at home.

2.  SWAR (Speak for me)

(a) e-Saadhya includes SWAR (Android mobile app) for non-verbal children and visual schedulers that work on Android Tablets. Wi-Fi connectivity is required to use these tools in tablets. e-Saadhya is currently available in 3 Indian languages Hindi, Kannada and Telugu in addition to English. Wherein, a child can tap on the image present on the screen which will speak out the desired need, action or the feeling which the child is intending to communicate. This app can be easily downloaded and installed on a mobile phone or tablet. Various pictures are available through which the child can communicate his day-to-day activities. Child can express his/her feelings by tapping on the relevant picture. Apart from existing pictures, parents can add/delete new images with description. It adapts the methodology of Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).


(b.) Key features of SWAR:

  1. Add/delete new images.
  2. Image capture through Camera.
  3. Image addition from gallery.
  4. Categorize pictures in wide range of categories like food, colours, toys clothes, objects, places, animals, drinks, vegetables, fruits, planets, communicate and words.
  5. Type and Read out own sentences.
  6. Text to speech.
